A smarter way to find training opportunities

Get timely alerts, build connections with decision-makers, and support your ongoing marketing and lead generation activities

Running since 2013

Over a decade of sharing training opportunities
with freelance trainers

Direct access to decision-makers • Opportunities shared with subscribers • Connections across the training industry

The Opportunity Alert Service is a subscription service for freelance and associate trainers, created by Sharon Gaskin in 2013.

It shares associate training work and freelance trainer opportunities with subscribers by email, drawing on a network built over many years of working with organisations, training companies and independent trainers.

Most opportunities tend to be UK-based, although some virtual and occasional international opportunities are also shared.

For trainers who want to find associate training work or hear about freelance trainer opportunities without spending hours on job boards, the service offers a simple way to stay informed and spot opportunities as they arise.

The challenge freelance trainers face

If you run your own training business and work as an associate trainer, you’ll know how quickly time can disappear when you’re trying to find new opportunities.

Hours can be spent:

  • scrolling job boards
  • checking LinkedIn and industry groups
  • following up leads that go nowhere
  • trying to find the right person to speak to inside an organisation

And even when something looks promising, getting through to the decision-maker responsible for bringing trainers in isn’t always straightforward.

Over time, this constant searching can start to eat into the time you’d much rather spend delivering training and working with clients.

That’s one of the reasons I created the Opportunity Alert Service: to help you stay informed about potential opportunities, support your own marketing efforts, and build a consistent pipeline of leads and introductions that can develop into new client relationships over time.

A simple way to stay informed about opportunities

The Opportunity Alert Service is designed to complement what you’re already doing by sharing training opportunities with you as they arise.

Alerts come from a range of sources, including our network, returning clients, LinkedIn, online searches and the Trainer Talk community.

Most opportunities tend to be UK-based, reflecting where the majority of organisations in our network operate.

Occasionally, we do receive international opportunities (including Europe and the Middle East). These are often either virtual or involve organisations looking for UK-based trainers who are willing to travel.

As with all alerts, the location and delivery requirements will be clearly outlined so you can decide whether it’s relevant for you.

Many opportunities are shared exclusively with subscribers and may not appear anywhere else.

This means you hear about opportunities early and can decide whether they’re worth following up.

In many cases, the value of an alert isn’t just the immediate opportunity. It’s the introduction, and what you choose to do with it.

When you follow up and build the relationship, that initial conversation can lead to further work over time.

"I signed up to Sharon’s Trainers Training Company's Opportunity Alert Service around 2 years ago and have benefited in three distinct categories.

Firstly, I won a contract for direct client business with a large council which I only became aware of as a result of the service and wouldn't have won without it.

Secondly, I responded to a request on the service for new associate relationships. The relationship I formed as a result has benefit me in the form of several projects and initiatives which have been highly beneficial to me.

Thirdly, after realising the benefits of the alert service, I signed up to one of Sharon's courses which covers all aspects of running your own training company."

Where the opportunities we share come from

Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time working with freelance trainers, training businesses and organisations that regularly bring in external trainers.

Because of this, people often get in touch when they’re looking for trainers or want help sharing an opportunity.

Some opportunities come directly from organisations within our network who contact us when they need trainers for a particular project.

Others come from returning clients who have worked with trainers before and reach out again when new work arises.

We also keep an eye on opportunities shared through LinkedIn, industry contacts and online searches, passing on anything relevant to subscribers.

Many opportunities are shared exclusively with Opportunity Alert subscribers and may not be advertised anywhere else.

When an alert goes out, we share the key information available at the time and, where possible, include details to help you reach the relevant decision-maker so you can make your own approach.

The service isn’t a recruitment agency, and we don’t recommend specific individuals. Instead, the aim is to make sure subscribers hear about opportunities early and have the information they need to decide whether to follow them up.

“Because I work closely with freelance trainers and organisations that regularly bring in external trainers, people often get in touch when they’re looking for trainers for a project. The Opportunity Alert Service allows me to pass those opportunities on quickly to subscribers.”

What happens when you subscribe

When you join the Opportunity Alert Service, you’ll receive alerts by email whenever something relevant comes in.

Because all opportunities are driven by market demand, the number of alerts naturally varies. Some weeks you may see several opportunities land in your inbox, while other weeks may be quieter.

We share opportunities as soon as we receive them, but it’s important to understand that we can’t guarantee the number or frequency. That will always depend on what organisations are actively looking for at any given time.

When we say the service is market demand-led, we mean that everything shared is shaped by what organisations are actively looking for at that time.

This includes not just how often opportunities come in, but also:

These factors are outside of our control and will vary depending on wider market conditions and organisational needs at any given time.

What an alert typically covers

Each alert contains the key information available at the time, which may include:

Opportunities vary widely, but we often see requests for areas such as leadership and management, soft skills, customer service, sales, wellbeing and coaching.

We also receive opportunities across technical and specialist areas, including IT, digital skills, AI, systems training and more.

We occasionally share direct client opportunities. While they’re less common, they can be especially valuable for the right trainer.

This mix continues to evolve as organisational needs change, so the types of opportunities shared will naturally reflect current demand.

You decide if and how to use the alert

This service allows you to decide whether the opportunity is right for you and make your own approach.

Many trainers treat the alerts as a starting point for conversations, and the follow-up is often where longer-term opportunities develop.

Most subscribers use the service alongside their own networking, outreach and marketing activities as another way to connect with potential clients. For this reason, many see the service as one part of their wider marketing and business development approach, rather than something that replaces it.

"Subscribing to Opportunity Alerts enables me to make choices about the kind of work I want to do and where I think my expertise and experience are the right and best fit. If it is of interest, I can respond with all the necessary information. It is competitive but I have seen success."
Mike Mair – Director of Mair Development Ltd

A few important things to know

The Opportunity Alert Service is designed to help you hear about opportunities quickly. It works best when you understand how it fits alongside your wider business development activity.

It isn’t a recruitment agency or job board

The Opportunity Alert Service shares opportunities that come in through our network or that we identify through our own searches.

We don’t recommend specific trainers or match individuals to roles. Instead, every subscriber has the same opportunity to review the alert and decide whether to follow it up.

Alerts are shared with subscribers

When opportunities come in, our priority is to share them with the people who have invested in the Opportunity Alert Service.

Many opportunities are shared exclusively with subscribers and may not appear anywhere else.

To protect the value of the service, we ask that alerts aren’t forwarded on. If you know someone who may be interested, you’re very welcome to direct them to the sign-up page.

Opportunities vary

Because all opportunities are driven by market demand, the number and type of alerts naturally varies throughout the year.

Some may be immediate opportunities, while others are earlier-stage enquiries or part of a longer-term pipeline.

Once you decide to follow up an opportunity, it’s up to you to make your pitch and build the relationship with the organisation involved.

"I have been using the Opportunity Alert Service since shortly after I went freelance in 2019, and find it an incredibly useful weapon in my sales armoury.

Through it I have secured a number of one-off pieces of work (including running a Leadership development day for the senior team at a micro-brewery, who insisted on giving me a couple of produce samples in case I got thirsty on my train ride home!) and have also been working as an Associate with an established training provider since responding to an advert on the Service in August 2022.

Having potential opportunities sent directly to my inbox is a massive help to my own sales/marketing activity as I probably wouldn’t be aware of them if I relied 100% on traditional time-consuming Google or jobs board searches (although these are still an essential task!).

To quote Ken Blanchard, I am a ‘raving fan’ of the Opportunity Alert service and recommend it to all freelance trainers".

Who the Opportunity Alert Service is for

The Opportunity Alert Service is designed for freelance trainers who want a simple way to stay informed about training opportunities as they arise.

Many subscribers use the service alongside their existing marketing, networking and outreach activities as another way of connecting with potential clients.

Because alerts share information rather than secure work, the service tends to work best for trainers who are proactive about developing their business and are happy to follow up opportunities themselves.

For some trainers, an alert leads directly to new work. For others, the value comes from staying aware of opportunities and building relationships with organisations over time.

What Trainers Who Are Already Using The Service Say

"I'm very happy to recommend Sharon Gaskin’s Opportunity Alert Service.

Over the last few years it has enabled me to find out about many useful training projects that I would never have know about!

Many of these have developed into ongoing client relationships with lots of varied Learning and Development projects to lead and manage.

Thanks Sharon for providing such a great service to freelance trainers - it's much appreciated!"
Claire Palethorpe - Owner and Training & Development Consultant at Pont Faen Consulting Ltd
"I subscribed to Sharon's Opportunity Alert Service (think of it as a "Dating Site" for Trainers where alerts are sent out on a regular basis!!). It is fantastic value.

Since joining, I have successfully secured work with three different companies needing Associate trainers. Two are ongoing with multiple courses and my most recent was a one-off.

For less than the price of a few coffees at Costa or a nice bottle of wine, I can highly recommend this service."
Maria Musgrove-Wethey - London Training For Excellence
"I partnered with Sharon's Opportunity Alert service as I had bandwidth for more work and was intrigued about the most common coaching and training needs in the market.

I was looking for a company to partner with strategically and I found a great match through this service within the first couple of months of signing up!

There was a huge variety of postings for freelance training/coaching work, highly recommended."

Frequently Asked Questions about the Opportunity Alert Service

If you’re wondering how the Opportunity Alert Service works, the answers to some common questions are below.

From time to time, organisations, training providers and contacts within my professional network get in touch when they’re looking for trainers.

When an opportunity comes in, I share the details by email with people who have subscribed to the Opportunity Alert Service.

Each alert includes the key information available at the time and, where possible, contact details that allow you to approach the relevant decision-maker directly.

Alerts are sent as opportunities come in, so frequency varies depending on market demand. Some weeks you may receive several alerts; other weeks may be quieter. Every alert reflects a real, active requirement from an organisation or training company, rather than a set schedule of emails.

The number of opportunities varies because they are driven entirely by market demand.

Some weeks you may see several alerts arrive in your inbox, while at other times there may be fewer.

Whenever we hear about a relevant opportunity, we pass it on to subscribers as quickly as possible. However, we can’t guarantee the number or frequency of alerts because it depends on what organisations are actively looking for at any given time.

Many subscribers see the service as a way to stay informed about opportunities they may not otherwise hear about, alongside their own networking, outreach and marketing activities.

Opportunities can vary widely depending on what organisations are looking for at the time.

Over the years, requests have included areas such as:

  • Leadership and management development
  • Soft skills, sales and customer service training
  • Coaching, wellbeing and resilience
  • Mental health and stress management
  • Project management, finance and business skills
  • IT and systems training, including AI, digital skills, Microsoft Office and related tools

From time to time, organisations also ask for trainers who can deliver programmes in other languages.

We occasionally share direct client opportunities. While they’re less common, they can be especially valuable for the right trainer.

Because the service reflects real market demand, it’s impossible to predict exactly what types of opportunities will arise.

This mix continues to evolve as organisational needs change, so the types of opportunities shared will naturally reflect current demand.

Most opportunities tend to be UK-based, reflecting where the majority of organisations in our network operate.

Occasionally, we do receive international opportunities (including Europe and the Middle East). These are often either virtual or involve organisations looking for UK-based trainers who are willing to travel.

No.

The service simply shares opportunities that come in through my network or that we identify through our own searches.

I don’t act as a recruitment agency and I don’t recommend specific trainers to organisations. Each subscriber has the same opportunity to review the alert and decide whether to follow it up.

The Opportunity Alert Service is not a job board. Instead of listing opportunities publicly, alerts are shared directly with subscribers via email as they arise, often including access to decision-makers and opportunities not advertised elsewhere.

Each alert contains the information available at the time, including contact details where possible.

If you decide an opportunity is a good fit, you can approach the organisation directly using the details provided and make your own introduction or proposal.

One of the advantages of the service is that alerts often include access to the relevant decision-maker, which can make it easier to make contact.

The organisation advertising the opportunity manages its own selection process.

In most cases, they will contact trainers directly if they wish to continue the conversation or request further information.

Because the Opportunity Alert Service simply shares the opportunity, I’m not involved in the organisation’s selection decisions.

Yes. The service is open to freelance and associate trainers at all stages. If you are in the early stages of building your training business and are looking for associate work to develop your client base and income, the Opportunity Alert Service is designed precisely for that situation.

Alerts are shared with paying subscribers, and many opportunities are circulated exclusively through the Opportunity Alert Service.

For that reason, we ask subscribers not to forward alerts to others.

If you know someone who may be interested, you’re very welcome to direct them to the sign-up page so they can subscribe themselves.

The Opportunity Alert Service is available as either a monthly or annual subscription, so you can choose the option that works best for you.

Full pricing details are shown on the sign-up page.

There are no hidden fees, no commission arrangements, and no tie-in periods. Monthly subscriptions can be cancelled at any time, and annual subscriptions renew each year unless you choose to cancel.

Yes. Monthly subscriptions can be cancelled at any time.

Shortly before your 12-month subscription ends, you’ll receive a reminder that your renewal date is approaching.

If you’d like to continue receiving alerts, you don’t need to do anything and the subscription will renew automatically for the following year.

If you decide not to continue, the renewal can simply be cancelled.

What types of opportunities are shared?

Let’s take a closer look.

Opportunities vary depending on what organisations are looking for at the time, and the mix continues to evolve.

The most common categories include:

Associate trainer at work

Associate trainer work

Many alerts relate to training companies looking to expand their pool of associate trainers. These are often the start of ongoing relationships rather than one-off projects, with the potential for repeat work once you’ve established yourself with a new client.

Trainer in direct client meeting

Direct client opportunities

Some opportunities come directly from organisations such as businesses, councils, NHS trusts and other employers. While these are less common, they can be particularly valuable as they involve working directly with the organisation rather than through an intermediary, and can sometimes lead to longer-term relationships.

Management and leadership training

This is one of the most consistent areas of demand, particularly from organisations investing in leadership development. Opportunities often suit trainers with experience in management, coaching or organisational development.

Soft skills training

Areas such as communication, confidence, resilience and interpersonal skills are regularly requested across a wide range of sectors. Trainers with strong facilitation skills in these areas are often in demand.

Technical training

We also see opportunities for trainers delivering technical or specialist subjects, including IT systems, processes, compliance and product knowledge. These roles often require a combination of subject expertise and delivery experience.

Sales training

Organisations investing in sales capability frequently look for experienced sales trainers. Opportunities can range from one-off sessions to longer programmes, sometimes with scope for repeat delivery.

Online and virtual delivery

Virtual and hybrid delivery has become much more common, and many organisations now specify online delivery as part of their requirements. Trainers who are confident delivering engaging sessions remotely are regularly sought.

More feedback from Opportunity Alert subscribers

Over the years, many trainers have shared how the Opportunity Alert Service has helped them stay informed about opportunities and connect with new clients.

"I would highly recommend the Trainers Training Company and their Opportunity Alert service to anyone who is an independent trainer.

It is not just the quality of the training opportunities which are received, it is the entire ' package'. This includes on going encouragement, workshops and meetings, and regular posts which keep us all focussed and enthused.

Opportunities have come my way which I would not have been able to source independently. If you are going to make an investment this year, make it this one."
Fiona McPhail, McPhail Watmore Associates Ltd
"For learning, training, coaching and development folk, the message is simple...sign up to this service today.

The alerts are consistent, mapping out everything you need to make direct contact with people looking for your expertise.

This service is complete value for money and one that is a no-brainer to endorse."

"Sharon’s opportunity alert service has helped me to build and grow my business by connecting me with new training suppliers and clients whom I would never have known otherwise.

I appreciate the reliability that Sharon provides as she already has the relationships with the clients.

For a minimal monthly amount of money, the first booking was worth the financial commitment. Anyone looking for useful contacts and new clients to work with will do well by signing up.

Even though I have many great relationships and plenty of work now, I’m always keen to work with new people as I love the variety - so I will continue to benefit from the service."

"Over the past few weeks, I have secured two pieces of work and we are currently working on our third stage of a tender.
This service is a 'No brainer' and if you are seeking a great network and new clients, this is for you. Sharon does not over promise anything, she simply offers a very simple service with lots of great opportunities."
Kay L
"I receive regular emails with all sorts of opportunities and recently one particularly caught my eye. It resulted in a lovely piece of Associate work which I never would have secured through my own business. And this piece has led to a massive project which will run for at least 18 months.

The alert service gives me the opportunity to bid for both direct and Associate work that would not cross my horizons without it and it’s definitely worth the investment. Thank you Sharon and Jasmine for all the work you put into sourcing these projects."
Jackie Clifford - Clarity Learning & Development
"I have been using the alert service for a few years now and I find it amazing! It's such good value for money and the associate job opportunities come to you, so you can choose which ones are correct for you. Nearly every one that I've applied for I have been lucky enough to get. This has provided a good source of income for me - some on a very short term basis - some over a few years! I have built some long term clients using this service. I would highly recommend this service and the support that you get from Sharon."
Rachel Powell - Enlightened Training

How is the Opportunity Alert Service different from a job board?

Job boards aggregate publicly advertised vacancies, often scraped from multiple sources. The Opportunity Alert Service works differently in several important ways:

Curated, not scraped

Every opportunity shared through the service has been reviewed before it reaches subscribers. Alerts are not auto-generated or pulled in from aggregators they come from real contacts, returning clients, and organisations within the network who get in touch directly when they have a requirement.

Access to decision-makers

Where possible, alerts include direct contact details for the person responsible for bringing trainers in. On a job board, you submit an application to a process. With an alert, you are often making a direct approach to the commissioning manager or L&D lead, i.e. the person who will actually decide whether to work with you.

Exclusive opportunities

Many opportunities shared through the service are not advertised anywhere else. Organisations contact the network specifically because they want to reach experienced freelance trainers directly, rather than managing a public applications process.

A trusted community

The service sits within a wider trainer community. That means the introductions made through it carry context - the organisations contacting us already understand how the freelance training market works, which tends to make conversations more straightforward for both sides.

What is an Associate trainer?

An associate trainer is a freelance training professional who delivers training on behalf of a training company or organisation, rather than working as a permanent employee.

Most associate trainers work with a number of different clients at the same time, building relationships with training companies and organisations they deliver for.

Work is usually offered on a contract or day-rate basis, whether for a one-off project, a longer programme, or ongoing delivery.

For many freelance trainers in the UK, working as an associate is a key part of how they build their business, and it’s one of the most common types of opportunity shared through the Opportunity Alert Service.
